Stephanie Frappart, a French football referee has become the first woman referee ever in the Men’s World Cup Qualifier
The 37-year-old Stephanie Frappart is a French football referee. She has reached a new milestone when she became the first-ever female referee to take charge of the Men’s World Cup Qualifier (WCQ).
She was the referee of the match between the Netherland and Latvia which was in Amsterdam. Netherland won the match by 2-0. In the first half, Steven Berghuis scored a goal and his teammate Luuk de Jong scored in the other half to ensure the victory of their country. There were four yellow cards given in the match by Stephanie Frappart.
This was not the first time for the French referee Stephanie to referee in a men’s match. In December, she took charge of the men’s UEFA Champion’s League match which was between the Italian club Juventus and the Ukrainian club Dynamo Kyiv.The super Cup match between Liverpool and Chelsea in 2019 was also refereed by Stephanie Frappart. “I absolutely did not expect to be entrusted with the management of the European Supercup. This Chelsea-Liverpool came out of nowhere for me. I couldn’t dream of it or expect it. There was pressure. My experience in Ligue 1 and the World Cup final allowed me to put things into perspective. I knew I was expected, I told myself that the experience gained would serve me well”, Stephanie said.
Stephanie Frappart has achieved many milestones in her career. She was awarded UNFP Trophy for the best female referee 2014, Referee of the 2018 U20 Women’s World Cup final (24-08-2018, Spain-Japan), Best referee of the Women’s World Cup 2019, referee of the final (07-07-2019, USA-Netherlands), Best female referee in the world IFFHS 2019, First female central referee of an international match in an official men’s competition (06-09-2020, Malta-Latvia, League of Nations), First female center referee in a UEFA Super Cup final (14-08-2019, Chelsea-Liverpool), First female central referee of a Ligue 1 match (Amiens-Strasbourg, 04-28-2019), and the first female central referee of a Ligue 2 match (Niort-Brest, 08-08-2014)
