Indian Railways celebrated a hat-trick of victories in the Senior Men’s Group Kabaddi Championship by easily defeating Army by 44-23. The Services also lost for the third time in a row. Indian Railways established its dominance by winning the National Kabaddi Championship at Roha-Raigad in Maharashtra, Jaipur in Rajasthan, and now Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh. Maharashtra’s Kabaddi team, however, had to be eliminated in the semi-finals.Railways had a 19-10 lead at halftime in the title race. After bitter resistance, Maharashtra lost to Services 38-40 in the semi-finals, ending Maharashtra’s challenge in the National Kabaddi Championship. Though Maharashtra lost the match, the team’s coach Prashant Surve and captain Shubham Shinde won the hearts of all Kabaddi fans in Maharashtra.
The Services had dominated the semi-final match on the mat at the Bhimrao Ambedkar International Bonded Sports Complex from the outset. In the first half, Services took the lead 22-17 at the interval. After halftime, the Maharashtra team came on the field with a different intention. Siddharth Desai, Pankaj Mohite, Rishank Devadiga took points in the ascent, while Mayur, Girish Ernak, Shubham Shinde made excellent holds and reduced the score difference. In the last few minutes, Services was playing with a lead of only 1 point. The innings of this first half saw the top catch of three climbing players. With a difference of 2 points, Maharashtra fell into the pit of defeat. At the last minute, Siddharth Desai was caught and Services won the match by 2 points. If Siddharth Desai had scored in this climb, the match would have ended in a draw. It was not the day of Maharashtra.In the second semi-final, Indian Railways thrashed Rajasthan by 45-30 after trailing 14-16 at half time to reach the final. Rajasthan had taken the lead in the first half with the first salt, but they could not sustain it in the second half.In the finals, Railways had 25 raid points, 15 tackle points, and four all-out points which helped them to win over Services by 44-23 to hold the trophy.
