Portugal Denied winning goal against Serbia

Cristiano Ronaldo left fuming when his effort was cleared by Serbian center-back Stefan Mitrovic after the ball crossed the line, with referee Danny Makkelie waving play on in with no VAR  to review within the place.
Liverpool’s Diogo Jota Scored twice for Portugal before the Serbian fought back in their World Cup qualifiers match to induce a draw.Aleksander Mitrovic scored the first goal for the team just after half-time in the 46th minute of the game and showed signs of a comeback. Mitrovic became his country’s all-time top scorer. He has now scored 39 goals in 63 international appearances.Filip Kostic netted the equalizer for the team in the 60th minute.Serbian Nikola Milenkovic was sent off for a studs-up challenge on Danilo in stoppage time.Just after this incident, the visitors were furious when Ronaldo’s late effort was Denied.Ronaldo thought his shot has crossed the goal line but the referee said no.The goalline technology (VAR) wasn’t available for the match.
Juventus forward leaving the pitch and heading towards the tunnel throwing the captain’s armband on the floor seconds before the full-time whistle shows his disappointment. Ronaldo was also booked for dissent for arguing with the referee when his effort was rejected.
“There are moments which are tough to digest especially when we feel the entire nation is being punished,” “We will keep our heads up and move on to the next challenge,” Ronaldo said on Instagram.
Portugal coach Fernando Santos also reached a milestone – 1,000 games as head coach at the club and international level in his 33-year long career within the dugout.
He said: “The referee apologized to me straight after the game and we now have to move on.
“It was a clear goal but there is nothing we can do now. We controlled the first half but lost our focus in the second and failed to contain Serbia as they surged forward.” He further continued.Attachments area
