The national camp of the Indian Boxing Team, which is underway in Patiala, is seen hitting the corona. Men’s team coach Jay singh Patil was diagnosed with corona on Monday. Now, 13 players and support staff of the camp have been affected. Some have been hospitalized and some have been kept in isolation.
Earlier, Deepak Kumar (52 kg weight class), Mohammed Khan (57 kg weight class), Manjeet Singh (over 91 kg weight class) and Narendra Kumar (over 91 kg weight class) were infected with corona. Also with Jaisingh Patil, the head coach of the men’s team C.A. Kuttappa has also been found to have corona. All of these have been corona tested by the Sports Authority of India.
A total of nine boxers and Kuttappa had been tested corona positive during rhe RT-PCR tests which were conducted in NIS by the Sports Authority of India. A day later, Etash too tested positive.
The corona positive affected are self-isolating in NIS at the Major Dhyanchand Hostel.
Strict restrictions have been imposed on the national camp in Patiala due to the rise in corona infection. The practice of not having physical contact with each other is being taken up by the instructors. Restrictions have also been imposed on meetings with teammates. Also, the selection process for the senior national competition has been stopped immediately.
