Nanded : A mock of Sikh people protested and attacked security personnels with swords
After being denied permission to hold a public procession in Maharashtra’s Nanded due to the corona virus pandemic, a sword-wielding mob went on a rampage outside a gurudwara and attacked them, at least four police officers were injured.
A video of the incident went viral, showing a sword-wielding mob storming out of the gurdwara, destroying police barricades, and attacking officers.Several vehicles were also damaged in the violence.
According to news agency PTI, Nanded Range DIG Nisar Tamboli said, “Permission for the Hola Mohalla public procession was not granted due to the pandemic; the gurdwara committee was told, and they had assured us that they would abide by our directives and hold the event within the gurdwara premises.”
When the Nishan Sahib arrived at the gate about 4 p.m., however, some participants began to dispute, and over 300 youth rushed out of the gate, smashed the barricades, and began assaulting the police officer,” he said.
One of the four constables, according to Tamboli, is in critical condition. According to him, the crowd destroyed six police cars.
At least 200 people will be charged with rioting and attempted murder under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 324 (voluntary causing harm with dangerous weapons), 188 (disobeying a public servant’s order), and 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
