There are so many reasons why we should not sleep less than 6-8 hours. Poor sleep can leads to higher weight gain. It is one of the strongest risk factors for obesity. As per the study, children with short sleep duration were 89% and in adults 55% more likely to develop obesity. And if you are trying to lose weight, getting quality sleep is absolutely cruicial. Another study found that short sleep can negatively impact some aspects of brain function to a similar degree as alcohol intoxication. Good sleep improves concentration and productivity. Improves your brain function up to its best. This includes cognition, concentration, productivity and performance. On the other hand, good sleep has been shown to improve problem-solving skills and enhance memory performance of both children and adults. Less sleep duration has also been associated with poor exercise performance in older women .A study in near about 3000 women found that poor sleep was linked to slower walking, lower grip strength, and greater difficulty performing independent activities and not having mood to work. Poor sleepers have the higher risk of heart disease and strokes. It can also lead to many health risk factors. A review of 15 studies found that people who don’t get enough sleep are at far greater risk of heart disease or stroke than those who sleep 7–8 hours per night. Poor sleep also leads to depression. As per the study It’s been estimated that 90% of people with depression complain about sleep quality. Those with sleeping disorders like insomnia or obstructive sleep apnea also report significantly higher rates of depression than those without. We need to focus on quality sleep as we do on eating and exercising daily. You simply cannot achieve optimal health without taking care of your sleep.
