India Breaks Road Building Records Says Gadkari

Since 2019, India has the second largest road network in the world, spanning total of 5.89 million kilometers. The road network transports 64.5% of goods in the country and 90% of the passenger traffic uses roads for commuting. In 2019, 10,855 km of highways were constructed, and the government has set the target for constructing 12,000 km of highways in 2020. In October 2020, a project was established for 9 National Highways with a total length of 262 km and worth Rs. 2752 crores in Tripura.India holds three world record for fastest road construction says the Union Minister of State for road Nitin Gadkari. Some recent initiatives by the government are: The NHAI awarded 1,330 km of highways in the first half year of 2021, which is 1.6 times of the total award’s of 2020 and 3.5 times of 2019. NHAI the nodal authority for building highways across the country has set the target of awarding 4,500 km of projects in the year 2021.Last year in December 2020, Nitin Gadkari (Union Mister of State for road transport and highways) inaugurated the three lane, 1.5 km long Koliwar bridge over Done river in Bihar. In the same month he laid the foundation stones for 15 National highway projects with the total length of 266 km and worth Rs 4,127 crore in Nagaland.The government through a series of initiatives, is working on policies to attract significant investor interest. A total of 2,00,000 km of national highways are expected to be completed by 2022.Gadkari said that India has made three world records in March. India now holds world record for fastest road construction. Also India has made a Guinness World Records by building a 2.5 km 4 lane concrete road within 24 hours. We also built 1 lane 25 km bitumen at Solapur-Bijapur road within 24 hours.
