RCB continue their winning runs as they beat KKR by 38 runs.
Yesterday’s first match of IPL 2021 was played between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. RCB won the toss and decided to bat first. They got a bad start as Varun Chakraborty took two wickets in the second over. Captain Kohli lost his wicket by scoring just (5) runs where Patidar got out on (1). But Glen Maxwell and Devdutt Padikkal played some high percentage shots to get back in-game. Maxwell played attacking cricket from the beginning that kept RCB’s scoring going at a good run rate. Devdutt also wanted to increase his strike rate but lost his wicket to Prasidh Krishna. He made (25) off 28 balls.Glenn Maxwell scored (78) for the team, hitting his second consecutive half-century of the season. AB De Villiers then scored an unbeaten (76) to put 204 on the scoreboard. He made these runs in just 34 balls and showed his 360-degree game. His destructive performance brought a lot of attention to the Kolkata Knight Riders.
While chasing the big total, Gill gave a quick start but lost his wicket playing big shots. He made (21) runs in just 9 balls, But no other batsman kept the momentum going for KKR. They continuously kept losing wickets so no batsman was able to score big runs. In the end, Andre Russell played some big shots and made (31) runs off 20 balls but that was not enough.Kolkata lost 8 wickets in 20 overs and could only manage to make 166 runs.RCB’s Harshal Patel did bowl a great spell and was very economical and took two wickets.
The match has seen Royal Challengers Bangalore reach the top of the points table with 6 points. For the first time, RCB has won their first three matches of the season in IPL history.Kolkata is in the sixth position on the score table after losing this second match out of its 3 matches.
