India’s 15-member shooting squad for the Tokyo Olympics has been announced.  The team consists of Maharashtra’s top women players Tejaswini Sawant and Rahi Sarnobat.
 This is the first time that such a large number of Indian shooters have qualified for this competition.  The medal expectation from the country’s top player Manu Bhaker is high.  Manu will be participating in all three types of shooting.  Therefore, a medal is expected from her this year.  At the same time, it is believed that Tejaswini Sawant and Rahi Sarnobat of Maharashtra will also win medals for the country. In the recent World Cup shooting competition, these three players have achieved more than expected.
On  interaction with Rahi Sarnobat, who is representing India in prestigious sports festivals like the Tokyo Olympics.  She said, “This time, every athlete in the country is dreaming of winning a medal in the Olympics”. Rahi Sarnobat is confident that the country’s flag will be hoisted at the international level by winning a gold medal.
The World Championships in New Delhi gave us an idea of how ready we are before the Tokyo Olympics.  We got the answer to how mentally and physically we are ready for the important sports festival.  Of course, with each tournament, the shooters realize the flaws in their game.  I also felt the need to improve some things through the competition in New Delhi.  Of course things are not big.  I want to play better in some technical matters, but I will definitely say that I am on the right truck, Rahi Sarnobat said.
At the World Cup Shooting Championships in New Delhi, India retained the number one spot with 30 medals.  It was a very important event in terms of qualifying for the Olympics.  So players from most countries were involved.  Therefore, it cannot be said that less countries participated.  Also in the World Cup held in the year 2019, Indian shooters had achieved a resounding success.  Therefore, even if it is said that India is taking a leap in the shooting game, it will not matter, Rahi Sarnobat added.
World number one Elavenil Valarivan has been named in the Indian squad.  Elavenil did not secure an Olympic place in the women’s 10m air rifle group, but was selected on the strength of her consistent performance in the Olympic qualifying competition.
 In the women’s individual 25m pistol event, India will be dominated by Manu with experience, while in the 10m pistol event, Yashaswini Singh Deswal has been included with Manu.  Apurvi Chandela will only play in the women’s 10m air rifle individual event
