Netflix show “Bollywood Begum” to be taken down?

Another show “Bollywood Begum” streaming on the OTT platform Netflix being asked to take down by NCPCR because of portraying the children in inappropriate and unethical scenes.The national commission for protection of child rights has asked the Netflix show “Bollywood Begum” to take down the show within 24 hours or appropriate action might be taken down. The commission said that the show is promoting children involving in drugs and casual sex. Although Netflix has refused to comment anything on the matter, an actor from the series commented “The ‘inappropriate portrayal of children is such a nebulous term. Is the Commission aware of what goes on at the rave parties that teenagers regularly attend? To begin to solve the problems that plague our society we must first address those problems. And to address those problems we must first show them on screen. Right? No point in pretending they don’t exist.””Netflix should take extra precaution while streaming any content in respect of the children or for the children and shall also refrain themselves from getting into such things,” the commission said in a notice issued on Thursday. Also “Bollywood Begum” directed by Alankrita Shrivastava, who also directed “Lipstick Under My Burkha”, is a show about five women across generations in contemporary India fighting various issues including sexism and societal pressures and has a clear 18+ certification. The show also has Pooja Bhatt debuting after a long gap and many other actors.  With the new IT guidelines in action, all the OTT platforms have been asked to self-censor their content or actions might be taken. It has introduced a three-tier structure in which the two tiers include self-censoring and regulating and the last or third-tier include the central government into action. These reforms of controversies around the shows “TANDAV” and “MIRZAPUR” for explicit and inappropriate content.
